Prompt

How often do you use public transport?

This is a model answer for learning purposes. It is not the only possible high-scoring response.

Band 9 sample transcript

Band 9 sample transcript

I use public transport almost every day, mainly because I commute by bus during the week. There’s a stop a few minutes from my building, and the service is frequent enough that I rarely need to check the timetable. For short trips into the city, it’s much easier than driving because parking is expensive and often difficult to find.

At weekends I use it less, because I’m usually walking locally or travelling with friends. I wouldn’t say the system is perfect, but for my routine it’s convenient, reasonably affordable and usually dependable. So overall, it’s something I rely on rather than something I use only occasionally.
