IELTS Speaking Band 9 Sample Answers: Describe a special day out you had.

A special day out I remember was a coastal trip I took with my sister last spring to a small town about two hours away by train. We had both been busy for several weeks and realised we had not spent a full day together for a long time, so we chose somewhere easy to reach without much planning. The weather happened to be bright and cool, which was ideal because most of what we wanted to do was outdoors.

We walked along the coastal path in the morning, stopped for lunch in a small café and then spent the afternoon exploring the harbour and nearby beach. At one point we sat on a wall overlooking the water for nearly an hour and talked about family things we normally discuss in short phone calls. We did not try to fit in every attraction, and that made the whole day feel much more relaxed than some trips I have taken.

What made the day special was not that anything extraordinary happened, but that we had enough uninterrupted time to enjoy each other's company properly. I came home feeling both tired and refreshed, and the memory has stayed with me because it was such a simple reminder to make time for people I care about.
